Researchers from Stanford University invented a new material that will make the wearer feel unusually cool, almost equivalent to wear nothing. This result has been published in Science recently.
The researchers have developed a new kind of material which is based on plastic textile. It has the benefits of low cost and innovative functions. The most important thing is that this fabric can bring more effectively cool for human body than natural fabric and other synthetic fabric.
The new textile is made of polyethylene but it is different from other normal PE products. It is a thin layer but full of nanometer size pores. The diameter range is from 50nm to 1000nm. The various diameters of pores cover the whole visible light wavelength. So the fabric can cause obvious scattering for visible light and it will make itself become opaque. This will reduce the warming effect by light and release the infrared radiation and air. The special structure provides the fabric a very low thermal resistance property and makes it more comfort being worn in hot summer. The researchers also put special coating of polydopamine on the fabric for hydrophilic treatment to achieve the goal of moisture absorption and sweat wicking functions.
Researchers said that they expect the fabric can be more used for normal wear in summer and bring more comfort for people who wear them. They plan to improve the comprehensive performances of the fabric and reduce the processing cost to make the fabric more economic.
