This new law came into effect in December 2016.
In 2011, France took measures to temporarily limit the use of formamide in toy puzzle mats. The interim restrictions have been extended in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015; each extension period is one year.
In December 2016, the French Official Gazette (JORF) issued a Decree of 9 December 2016 to extend the temporary restrictions on the use of formamide in toy puzzle mats until 23 May 2017. But the requirements of 200 mg / kg limit has not been changed. In fact, from May 24, 2017, the European toy safety directive also limits the use of formamide in the toy puzzle pad.
This directive limits the use of formamide in foam toys and other foamed toys in a foamed toy under 3 years of age. The amendments to Appendix C of the EU Directive 2009/48 / EU Annex II, the Toy Safety Directive (TSD), will enter into force on May 24, 2017. The legislation applicable to the entire EU allows the use of formamide emissions as an alternative.
